Anti Haul | Items & Brands I’m Not Buying From

Something I’ve kind of become obsessed with on YouTube are Anti-hauls. The purpose of an Anti-haul is to talk about the different items that you won’t purchase and the reason for it. These “hauls” are usually hilarious, informative and they mimic some of my own thoughts. After some very sad revelations, I thought it would be appropriate for me to create one of my own. This anti-haul will feature items AND brands that I’m not interested in whatsoever. Let’s get it popping!

Brands:

Jouer, Benefit Cosmetics, Morphe Brushes and Wet n Wild Beauty

Can you say CANCELLED? Yep, that’s what these brands are. If you support and collaborate with someone who is unapologetic about their racist and misogynistic ways then you will not get these coins! Wet and Wild Beauty we were rooting for you!!

It Cosmetics

As long as they’ve been in business this is the first time that they’ve expanded their shade range past the color ‘deep’. I did not forget and no I am not interested!

KKW Beauty

There’s nothing worst than a makeup brand that claims to sell products for people with deep or dark skin knowing they’re selling ashy, low-quality makeup. Leave your inclusion at the door and sell your makeup to the people who can use it! And we can’t forget who she’s good friends with right? #GoodTryThough

Coloured Raine

Great products and questionable views. Since #AllLipsticksMatter I can get mine from another brand!

Huda Beauty

As beautiful as their products look I cannot bring myself to purchase anything from this brand. If you’ve ever looked at their Instagram page you would notice the scarcity of Black women being posted on their page. Those that do get posted are few and far in-between, and they are usually doing something outrageous for clicks. More recently you’ll notice that she’s been posting clickbait videos of women from other races but #YouGottaBeQuickerThanThat!

Items:

MAC x Nicki Minaj collection

All these colors but only TWO are new? It’s a good way to bring attention to these lesser know nudes but that’s not what I’m looking for in a new collection. I’ve previously purchased both of her Viva Glam lipsticks and lipglasses but this is where I draw the line. Please do better MAC!

Lorac Mega Pro 4

From the packaging to the colors, it just isn’t doing it for me.

Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette

I have no idea what type of theme they’re going for with this palette. Is it solely metallics with no matte shades? Are there transition colors? What’s going on Too Faced? Shout out to Jackie Aina for these swatches though!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipsticks & Subculture Eyeshadow Palette

The color scheme of the Subculture palette is so appealing but after watching so many bad reviews I can’t bring myself to even lust after it. I will admit that I do enjoy looking at pictures of the bold colored lipsticks. That’s not enough of a reason for me to want to spend my money on it though. I’m sure someone else will give them the love that I can’t.

First Impressions: New l/e Products from Black Radiance

Let's preface this by stating that Black Radiance is not a black-owned company. Now that that is out of the way, let's get into these limited edition goodies!

Y'all know that I always talk about affordable makeup, and everything inbetween, so I couldn't help but indulge in these new products while on my makeup no-buy.  Clearly my will power wasn't that strong; so I now have a contour palette, three matte lip creams and a baked bronzer, added to my makeup collection.

Artisan Color Baked Bronzer in Rose Gold $5

While this item is called a baked bronzer it definitely isn't, based on it's light color I would refer to this as a baked highlighter. This highlighter literally looks so amazing on the skin. It gives this wet, "Oh wow, her skin is so nice. I wish mine looked like that!" type of look and I LOVE it! I've used it almost every time I've done my makeup since purchasing.

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Matte Muse $4

Love the color. Despise the formulation. It's very watery, settles into the lines on your lips and it transfers.

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Matte About You $4

My opinion for Matte About You is the same as Matte Muse above.

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Melanin Princess $4

melanin princess
Out of the three metallic matte lip creams I've purchased this one is my favorite. There's a difference in the formulation because this lip cream isn't watery when applying. The color is also one of my favorites for lip products so I couldn't go wrong there. The lasting power is about on par with the others. If you eat/drink you will notice patches of color missing. This is color is very similar to the NYX Cosmic Metal in Asteroid Aura (one of my FAVES!).

The execution of these products should have been better considering they've released two collections of the metallic lip creams.
Side note: the color Melanin Princess is not pictured below because I took this picture after I had taken it from the display. The good thing is that you can see the other limited edition colors from their 'Black Girl Magic' collection. I own the red lipgloss to the bottom left, and it's definitely something you should pick up.

True Complexion Blushing Bronze Palette in Dark to Deep$8

I was SO excited to try out this palette that I put everything else I had considered purchasing back on the shelf. Would I regret it? No. But I don't like this palette as much as I would have expected. The contour color is too close to my skintone; which makes me wonder how many in the 'dark to deep' category could actually contour with this? The blush is pretty but not the shade of pink I love. And the highlighter is too glittery, if you put too much of it on you'll look crazy. Every person has their preference so this may be a hit for you or others who previously own their cream/powder contour palettes. I used this palette on my face for the first day of classes, and I must say it looked dang good!

If you've tried these items what are your thoughts, did you love it or did you reconsider your purchases?

ORS Olive Oil for Naturals Haircare Review on Mini-twists

Sally’s Beauty recently had their summer-clearance sale, and I had to go check it out. Before going I checked out my natural hair care stash – which has grown tremendously – and decided that I wouldn’t go crazy with what I got. After doing some looking around I saw that the Organic Roots Stimulator line for naturals was buy one get one free, and the rest is history. What I got is the Leave-in Conditioning Creme and the Buttermilk Styling lotion. Keep reading to see my review and results below.

Leave-in Conditioning Creme $5.99: My initial thoughts of this creme were that it smells absolutely amazing! This has to be one of the best smelling haircare products that I have had other than the Curls Blueberry Bliss line.

Moving on to more important things, this leave-in made my curls POP – like really pop – to the point that I was reconsidering my hairstyle. My hair was super soft after applying and it detangled like a breeze using only a quarter size of product on each section (I did four) of hair. Because of this I only had to use my detangling comb on my ends! My only gripe with this product is that it claims to fight dryness and frizz, but my hair was super frizzy the next day after wearing a silk bonnet AND scarf.

Buttermilk Styling Lotion $7.99: I don’t think I could ever go wrong with pairing the leave-in and styling lotion together. After completing my twists my hair was super juicy, shiny and moisturized – as seen in the picture above. There was no residue. It wasn’t watered down. I have no issues with this styling lotion. I would love to see the results from using this on a flexirod set, which may happen soon!

Short story: I recently attended the Panthers fan fest and was assaulted by a huge thunder storm with NO umbrella or rain jacket. I had just taken my hair out of the twists, which made things worse, but my hair wasn’t ruined after being completely soaked. For the most part my hair still held it’s curl even though I experienced a lot of shrinkage. If my hairstyle could kind of sorta hold up through that then I’m never letting these products go!

Overall I’m definitely recommending these two products. They’re affordable, moisturizing, and will detangle your hair with ease. I’ve come to accept that frizz will happen regardless of the claims that these products may have. How could I be mad at that if my hair still held up when completely soaked in the rain?

If you’ve tried this line and have any recommendations then please let me know.
