Last Minute Halloween Pirate Costume

I’ve tested out of trick or treating because I’m a bit too old to participate now. Because of this, costume parties and dressing up for $3 burritos at Chipotle is my M.O. For these things you don’t have to do much to be considered “dressed up”, but if you want to go the extra mile you can pick up costume accessories at Dollar Tree or any store that sell Halloween costumes. They sell cat ears, swords, feather boas, pirate hats, and much more; so you’ll always have options.

This year I decided to ditch my usual Josie and the Pussycat look for something a bit more simple – a pirate. More specifically a Pirate of the Caribbean!

To create this look I only spent ONE dollar, because everything I wore was already in my closet!

Red pirate hat | Dollar Tree

Large gold hoop earrings | Beauty supply store

Gold coin necklace | Claire’s

Black dress | Forever 21 plus

Over-the-Knee boots | New York & Company

Happy halloween everyone and stay safe! Please don’t speak to clowns in the drains…

Aphrodite Palette by Bad Habit | $10 Deal!

If you are big on beauty videos on YouTube then you may have heard of Shop Hush. This beauty retailer sells super affordable items with their most notable items being the dupe palettes from Bad Habit. They have “dupes” aka duplicates of Huda Beauty, Anastasia Bevery Hills, and most recently Urban Decay. All of these dupes cost a whopping TEN dollars and they are very popular which means they are constantly selling out!

The Aphrodite palette is a duplicate for the Huda Beauty Rose Gold edition palette that’s fifty-five dollars. Due to the fact that I have the shop hush app, I was able to purchase the palette while it was shown as sold out on the website. Luckily, I received free shipping (it was quick too!) and 30 cents off for logging into the app daily – you know I’m always looking to save money.  That’s a huge deal for me LOL. The palette came in a well packaged box, that was  a bit complicated to open because I think I was too excited, and two layers of bubble wrap. Safe to say it was goodT.

The Aphrodite palette definitely surprised me when initially opening it. The actual palette packaging is thick and doesn’t feel cheap like some would assume. It comes with a nice size mirror, that makes it great for travel and I really appreciate it. Just like the HB palette it contains 18 eyeshadows but the glitter shadows are replaced with metallic shades. Some of these shades contain a thicker glitter so it looks quite differently in the pan – I can not complain for the price point.

The Aphrodite palette is perfect for the fall because it features so many berry and red shades. I already have a few looks in mind that I would like to play around with. Rihanna’s smokey red look from the 2016 VMA’s is on the top of that list.

So far my favorite colors from the palette are (pictured left to right) Crush, Jealousy, Beauty, Flirt, Lust and Adore. Each of the metallic shades feel very buttery and smooth which had me #shoOk! My swatches aren’t the best but for a more detailed look at this palette in depth Andrea Renee has a great video that you can find here.

All my makeup beginners, lovers and those who do not mind Talc and Mica in their products, you need this palette like yesterday. If I am lucky enough to get my hands on more palettes from Bad Habit then I will share them here. Stay tuned!

My Ride or Die Makeup Brush

If I was cast away to some luxurious island and could only bring one makeup brush with me, what brush would I bring? (Assuming I will have any makeup with me.) My ride or die of course!

ELF’s Powder Brush $4

I am so thankful that this scenario will never occur because I would hate to name my brush Wilson, and have him be my only source of contact. Would I be mad at it? Not exactly, but it’s definitely not ideal.

I’m sure you’re wondering what makes this brush so special that I would pick it over the others in my collection – well you’re about to find out!

The ELF powder brush is obviously amazing for applying, and buffing powders into the skin, I mean it is a powder brush. Aside from applying powders, I also use this to apply foundation and to blend out my under eye concealer. If I only had 5-10 minutes to complete my face makeup then this is what I’m reaching for. I won’t have to wet it, squeeze out the excess water and use other tools with it either, and that’s part of what makes it so great. I’ve mentioned my love for this brush a few times, and I don’t believe it will ever change.

In the case that you need an affordable, multi-purpose makeup brush then you should pick this up. You will not regret it and that’s for sure! My other brush recommendations from ELF can be found here.

Accessorize Like a BOSS Without Breaking The Bank

ac·ces·so·rize | verb
to provide or complement (a garment) with a fashion accessory.

We all know that accessories can make or break an outfit. Whether it is a necklace, ring, purse, hair wrap, or whatever, it’s super important. It doesn’t matter if your style is over the top but well done like Rihanna and Beyonce, or minimalist and clean cut. There is always something for you.

I personally prefer to be savvy with my accessory purchases because trends come and go everyday, and I don’t want to regret my decisions later. My favorite places to find hot, affordable items are: H&M – New York & Company – Belk – Charlotte Russe – and stores like TJ Maxx & Burlington Coat Factory.

Tips to find deals, deals, deals:

When I’m looking for more minimal accessories the first place I will go to is H&M. If that doesn’t work out then I’ll go to NY&Company, depending on what accessory sale they are having. Both stores have their items separated by metals which makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.

For the more colorful and fast fashion pieces then I usually luck up on Charlotte Russe’s – 2 for $10 jewelry. The two for ten is great for pulling a full look together because you can buy a set of rings and a necklace, or a set of earrings and a pack of bracelets. You can get a real bang for your buck!

Don’t shy away from getting items with small imperfections.  Small imperfections can lead to minor mark downs in the final cost. So you have the item you want and a few more dollars in your pocket.

Always, and I mean always, check the clearance and sale section. Many of the items pictured above were purchased for under $10 dollars.

A|W ’17 Shoe Wishlist

This wishlist was inspired by my shoe collection needing a serious update. Since I LIVE in tennis shoes and booties, when I’m not wearing UGGs (how dreadful? I know!) I thought it would only be right to share what I’m currently coveting.
