koyVoca Cosmetics Haul + Review

When I received an email from koyVoca cosmetics saying that everything was 30% off, I ran to their website and placed an order. In this order, I purchased the Hilife Highlighter in the shade Heir $12 and their Classic Setting Powder in the shade Medium-Deep $10.

Hilife Highlighter in Heir

Choosing a highlighter from their collection was so hard because they have several gorgeous colors and I love them all. I eventually decided on Heir and I’m loving it’s true gold color. The powder is so smooth, doesn’t have obvious glitter and it gives me an ethereal glow. The packaging is compact and great for traveling but I dislike the labels used for the shade names, I accidentally set it on a wet counter and the sticker started peeling almost immediately. Also, my highlighter came with a huge nick in it (as seen above), I assumed that it maybe happened while the powder was being pressed or during shipping.

After traveling with it and using the highlighter a few times there are more dents on the product! If you drop this once, you will probably be devastated at the empty pan and product everywhere. I’m not sure what they are using to press the pigments but the product is way too soft and will break away slowly, do you see all of the powder on the packaging? I don’t have this issue often.

Classic Setting Powder in Medium-Deep

I have no complaints about this powder! I realize that I should have purchased it in the Medium shade but I am so used to commercial brands who sell medium powders that are really “light” so my skepticism prevented me from going with that option. Thankfully I can work with medium-deep even though it’s a bit too red for my liking. My face is set nicely after initial application then I’ll notice a bit of oiliness in my T-Zone but that has happened with other powders also.

AJ Crimson #CyberMonday Haul

Happy HAULidays everyone. I know that I mentioned participating in a few Black Friday sales, which I did. But I never mentioned Cyber Monday. I had not planned on spending any more money until I saw that AJ Crimson was having a half off sale!

Unfortunately, I was not able to get the foundation sampler on my Black-Owned Makeup Brands wishlist, but I did have a few other items I was eyeing; the lipgloss from the AJ Crimson x Naturi Naughton collection in Power Play & the mint metals lipgloss in the shade GO OFF!

Before the cyber Monday sale, each lipgloss cost $22 dollars. So I was able to get these for $11 each – essentially two for the price of one. A deal! I was not a fan of the shipping price but it is something to be expected when you aren’t spending more than $50 on most websites.

Since receiving my package, I’ve worn these glosses several times, and the formula is absolutely amazing. These glosses are super comfortable on the lips, long lasting, and gorgeous. As a lip junkie, I wish all brands had such great non-sticky formulas. AJ get’s an A++++ from me!

Do you see these colors? My goodness. I can not get enough of them! If you are on the market for new lippies then head on over to to purchase a few things, when you do tell him I sent you LOL. Enjoy!

The Lip Bar Black Friday Sale Haul

Happy HAULidays! Today we are back with another haul featuring makeup items that I purchased during Black Friday. If you saw my Black Friday Sales I’m Digging post, then you would have known that this was coming. As a semi-reformed lip product junkie, I could not resist the great sale that was being offered – every item was marked down to 10 dollars a piece except for the holiday 2017 collection that was just released.

From this sale I ordered one lip gloss, a lipstick and the mystery bag that comes with two items for $10 dollars. A deal indeed.

The goods:

Lip Gloss in the Shade Class Act | $14

I have already worn my lip gloss in the shade class act and I love it! My mother told me that if it comes up missing then I’ll know where it is; so I need to keep a close eye out on that one LOL. She may end up finding one in her stocking if mine doesn’t go missing.

Lipstick in the shade Chaitini | $13

Lipstick in the shade Everything | $13

Lip liner in the shade True Brown

Holiday Packaging vs. OG Packaging:

As you can see they spiced things up by using white packaging for their Holiday 2017 collection. I do not particularly care for it because it looks kind of cheap. I would have preferred the packaging to have a matte finish which is on par with their usual look. Aside from that I love the concept and hope that they will reconsider the finish. I had already planned what I was going to purchase, then I saw the new items in white packaging and had to pick something up.

If you’re interested in pigmented and colorful, vegan and cruelty free makeup then definitely check out The Lip Bar. Their liquid lipstick in Bawse Lady is ICONIC.

A.P.D.G Medium-Dark Sampler Pack Review & Swatches

In early August, I discovered the brand A.P.D.G on the DupeBlack Instagram Page. What caught my attention was the picture that caused a frenzy in the beauty world; showcasing over 30 shades of foundation for women of color. There weren’t 10 shades of beige, 8 shades of tan or 5 shades of porcelain. NO, there were 33 shades of BROWN foundation with a range that should make most brands hang their heads in shame. The infamous picture:

After stalking A.P.D.G’s website and Instagram, I realized that they sold sample packs for $10 that includes eight shades each. Their sampler packs come in Extra Light, Light, Medium, Medium Dark and Dark. Since they have such an amazing range I had no idea what shade best fit me so I decided to get the medium-deep pack. Below you can see the packaging which includes directions for application.

Each sampler contains 0.40 fl oz. The Medium-Dark sampler pack starts from the number 18 and ends at number 25.

the GOOD:

First I must congratulate this brand for doing what many others haven’t. We praise companies like Too Faced and Make Up For Ever for being sooooo inclusive when we have brands like A.P.D.G. that is made for Black women! We won’t ever have to wonder when the expansion of their foundation line will be, and we won’t hear any excuses either.

Second, I’ve worn this foundation on many occasions where I did random things like take my dog for a walk, going shopping, etc. and my face always looked flawless. I have paired it with different primers, concealers and the likes and I haven’t had any issues with it. I love the doe foot applicator that the testers come with because it makes it super easy to apply to the face.

and the not-so-good:

The shipping was terrible. I ordered on Friday, August 11th and I received my package on the 9th of September. I received a shipping/tracking email thinking that I would have my order in the next few days but that was not the case. I had to keep updating and wondering why my order was in pre-shipping, to go to their Instagram page and find that they had delays with shipping due to hurricane Harvey. This information wasn’t shared through email to their paying customers who would like an update but to the ‘gram.

Also, if you have any type of dark marks or hyper pigmentation you may want to layer or use to a concealer to get better coverage. I personally don’t mind my dark marks making an appearance but I know that this is something that many people dislike.

And one last thing – when the tubes sit, the foundation separates and you will notice the product is white, orange and then the color of the actual foundation. I have to shake the product up before using it. This is just a personal annoyance of mine.

#B.O.M.B | B’ellegant Cosmetics Review

At the end of July, B’ellegant Cosmetics had a huge sale discounting majority of their liquid lipsticks and lipglosses to $5. With a sale like that I couldn’t resist purchasing something so I picked up two of their lip glosses in the shades Pink Sunset and Mermaid Dreams.

Pink Sunset is described as a beautiful pink gloss with a strong gold shift & gold sparks.

Mermaid Dreams is described as a lavender gloss with a strong blue shift.

I must say that I am not very impressed with these lip glosses. The colors are gorgeous but they settle into the lines of my lips which looks quite unappealing. I especially have this issue with Pink Sunset and the gold glitters in the gloss. Out of two Mermaid Dreams would obviously be supreme in terms of color and how it applies.

Would I purchase lip glosses from B’ellegant Cosmetics again? Probably not – unless they improve the formulation of the glosses. With that being said, I am still optimistic about the other products they sell, and I am interested in picking up a few of their liquid lipsticks and maybe a highlighter or two.

If you’ve purchased from B’ellegant Cosmetics, please leave your product recommendations below!
