First Impressions: New l/e Products from Black Radiance

Let's preface this by stating that Black Radiance is not a black-owned company. Now that that is out of the way, let's get into these limited edition goodies!

Y'all know that I always talk about affordable makeup, and everything inbetween, so I couldn't help but indulge in these new products while on my makeup no-buy.  Clearly my will power wasn't that strong; so I now have a contour palette, three matte lip creams and a baked bronzer, added to my makeup collection.

Artisan Color Baked Bronzer in Rose Gold $5

While this item is called a baked bronzer it definitely isn't, based on it's light color I would refer to this as a baked highlighter. This highlighter literally looks so amazing on the skin. It gives this wet, "Oh wow, her skin is so nice. I wish mine looked like that!" type of look and I LOVE it! I've used it almost every time I've done my makeup since purchasing.

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Matte Muse $4

Love the color. Despise the formulation. It's very watery, settles into the lines on your lips and it transfers.

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Matte About You $4

My opinion for Matte About You is the same as Matte Muse above.

FullSizeRender (53)

Perfect Tone Matte Lip Cream in Melanin Princess $4

melanin princess
Out of the three metallic matte lip creams I've purchased this one is my favorite. There's a difference in the formulation because this lip cream isn't watery when applying. The color is also one of my favorites for lip products so I couldn't go wrong there. The lasting power is about on par with the others. If you eat/drink you will notice patches of color missing. This is color is very similar to the NYX Cosmic Metal in Asteroid Aura (one of my FAVES!).

The execution of these products should have been better considering they've released two collections of the metallic lip creams.
Side note: the color Melanin Princess is not pictured below because I took this picture after I had taken it from the display. The good thing is that you can see the other limited edition colors from their 'Black Girl Magic' collection. I own the red lipgloss to the bottom left, and it's definitely something you should pick up.

True Complexion Blushing Bronze Palette in Dark to Deep$8

I was SO excited to try out this palette that I put everything else I had considered purchasing back on the shelf. Would I regret it? No. But I don't like this palette as much as I would have expected. The contour color is too close to my skintone; which makes me wonder how many in the 'dark to deep' category could actually contour with this? The blush is pretty but not the shade of pink I love. And the highlighter is too glittery, if you put too much of it on you'll look crazy. Every person has their preference so this may be a hit for you or others who previously own their cream/powder contour palettes. I used this palette on my face for the first day of classes, and I must say it looked dang good!

If you've tried these items what are your thoughts, did you love it or did you reconsider your purchases?

#OOTN | Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

Recently I was challenged by Dia&Co, a curated shopping experience that’s exclusively in sizes 14+, to step out of my comfort zone and try something new with my style. Every Friday in their office they celebrate Try-day which is a day where they challenge each other to step out of the box and try something new. Because of their challenge I was also able to participate in Try-day, and I must say it was a good day!

Stepping out of your comfort zone can seem like such a task, especially when it comes to wearing different styles of clothing. With my small shopping problem (depending who you ask) I’ve acquired a bit of clothing that I’ve never worn because I didn’t feel confident in them. Crop tops, dresses, high heel shoes and shorts galore – this behavior has to be put to an end. To get a jump start on this I created an outfit with this super cute black and white off the shoulder crop top that I’ve had for over a year and never worn. I would always take it out as an option when getting ready for a night on the town but I’d punk out and decide to wear something more “comfortable”. Comfortable meaning something I’ve worn several times and I know it would look good on me. This mindset has really hindered me from stepping outside of the box and trying something different with my look. Wearing this top is just a small step because I wear a lot of off the shoulder tops but a crop top that highlights some of my insecurities.. no it hasn’t happened.

TODAY IS A NEW DAY THOUGH!

I’m getting out of my negative head space by doing what feels right and what looks good.

Mini Hair Product Reviews: L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Collection

I’m not the pickiest person when it comes to purchasing hair care items and I don’t care which section they come from – what matters to me is the packaging and the price point. With that being said, If I saw any of these products in the hair care section I would probably glance at them and keep it moving. At first glance I was a bit skeptical about these products but I’ve come to like most of them.

I should add that I received these items for free to review from Influenster which gave me the opportunity to try them out. If you would like to read other reviews of these products I have each item linked below!

img_0477

Shampoo: If I had to rate these items from 1-3 with 1 being my favorite this would be my second favorite. This works so well on my hair and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling stripped after using. At first I wasn’t feeling the fragrance but I have come to enjoy the rosemary scent while washing my hair. This smells better than the conditioner even though they are the same.. allegedly LOL. I would definitely purchase this if they changed the packaging because it sometimes doesn’t want to close and other times product will leak out.

Conditioner: I could live without this conditioner in my life. I know I’m being my usual dramatic self but I don’t think I’m being very extra with this review. The scent isn’t my favorite and my hair feels a bit dry after using. I didn’t see my usual juicy curls/coils after use and my hair dried super quick. Maybe the moisture was locked in but I’m not an expert on natural hair so I can only speak on what I saw.

10-in-1 Elixir: Like I mentioned above in the shampoo review – if I had to rate this item from 1-3 with 1 being my favorite this is it! I used this Elixir with my JBCO Leave-in from Shea Moisture when doing a twist out and I had one of the best twist outs in my natural hair history. My hair was so defined and moisturized, I would definitely purchase this again!

(L) After shampooing and conditioning –  (R) my best twist out to date!

If you are interested in trying only ONE of these items from the EverPure Moisture line then you should get the 10-in-one Elixir, you won’t regret it. Hopefully!

5 Swoon-Worthy Valentines Day Outfit Ideas

Ladies, it’s almost time to stunt on these men for Valentines day. Whether you are single or in a relationship you have to slay!

Last year I created a guide on the perfect lippies for V-day and an anti-valentines day outfit idea post – this year I decided to create another valentines day outfit idea post. The inspiration for these outfits came from my love of pale pinks, florals and a popping lip. Who can honestly say they dislike those things? And there isn’t a better time to wear them.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a date because I sure don’t. I’m just waiting on the candy to go on sale and for the new 50 shades of Grey movie to come out. The first one was terrible but it is what it is LOL. Let’s get into these looks!

Look cute and casual in this floral off the shoulder shirt, boot cut jeans and a stylish pair of booties paired with rose gold accessories and a gorgeous lippie.

vday2

Kill the scene in this cropped white off the shoulder shirt, a pair of fire-red high waisted pants, and a pair of classic black heels. You can add a leather jacket for a bit of edge.

vday7

Show your date that you have a different side to you in this dressyandalittlesexy look. This look features this gorgeous little black dress, wrap up heels and your favorite Olivia Pope style jacket. Add a light pink or nude lip with your floral Kate Spade and you are good to go!

vday3

Having a girls night out and you want to make a statement? Wear this. You may be called a badass or a heartbreaker but it is so worth it. This look has three of my wardrobe and beauty staples: A white t-shirt, a pair of skinny midwash jeans with a few rips and the Always Red (01) cream lipstain from Sephora which was also mentioned in my 14 lippies for V-day!

The jacket and heels just give it THAT badass – i may break your heart but you’ll love me anyways – feel

vday4

Going dancing or on the cutest date you could ever imagine? Yeah, me neither but this is what I would wear.

Another black dress (because who can’t get enough of those?) paired with a colorful purse and heels with multi-color pom poms. Add a sleek gold choker, black sunglasses to hide your shady looks and a metallic plum lippie. Voila! A masterpiece.

vday6

If you are dressing up for Valentines day or any other occasion, I hope that this post can give you a little inspiration or a laugh because I went a little over the top on the outfit descriptions lol. Much love.

My Favorite Things from 2016

Throughout the year of 2016 these things have been a blessing to my life. Without them I wouldn’t be able to continue life in an orderly fashion. Because they are obviously so amazing and they have stood the test of time they deserved to be praised and shared with the world (or whoever is reading this).

                               The honorees

2016 Faves.PNG

TRESemme Naturals Shampoo | Hands down this is my favorite shampoo. It has been here through thick and thin, transitioning to natural, and so forth. Unfortunately it couldn’t make it to the end of time because it has been discontinued *weeps*

Burberry Brit Perfume

Black Radiance Perfect Color Foundation | After sharing my Bomb Products from Black Radiance post on twitter I was informed that I hadn’t tried one of their best products, the perfect color foundation. So obviously I had to go purchase it a few days later with the intention that I would write a first impression/review for my blog. Well that never happened but what did happen was magical. I wore this foundation for about a week straight just to test it out then that week turned into each time I did wear makeup and now I’m almost finished with my first bottle.

This foundation is so bomb but sadly it doesn’t have a wide color range, which is a shame because so many women of color would love this if they could wear it!

Avon Ideal Flawless Translucent Powder

Rogue Love by Rihanna | I get complimented every single time I wear this perfume because it smells so absolutely amaaazzzing.

Amazon Fire Stick | Stop paying for Netflix, get hip and get yourself a fire stick. You can “unlock” it and watch as many things as your heart desires!

The Krazy Coupon Lady | App and website | KCL gives you everything you need when couponing! They tell you how much each item is worth, which coupons and rebates to use, when to use these coupons in-store/online AND what your total should be if you use their resources. They provide weekly store round ups and they also do posts highlighting the best deals in each store. These things make couponing so much easier for myself and others. Check out their website here or download the app!

Music | Because I love the original and remixed versions by Kaytranda of Be Your Girl by Teedra Moses and If by Janet Jackson I had to post them both!

Let me know some of your favorite things from 2016 by leaving a comment below or mention me on twitter at @XOSelenaNicole!

Friday’s Finds at Walmart

Because I am writing this post on Thanksgiving I would like to say that I am thankful for three things. Warning, these three things may sound shallow but it is what it is LOL!

I am thankful for:

  • My friend posting about these chokers from Walmart on Snapchat
  • for Walmart having these bomb chokers at such an amazing price point
  • for my local Walmart for actually having these in stock

I probably wouldn’t have remembered to check the jewelry section of my local Walmart if my mother hadn’t asked me to purchase a few Patti Pies for our Thanksgiving feast. Honestly I was shocked to see them sitting in the jewelry section because it is rare for me to find cool items in-store after seeing them online or on social media, so I grabbed two of the shiniest ones and headed to check out. There were #NoRegrets especially since they were $5 each.

So here I am to share the “wealth” and a few pictures of my new shiny chokers from wally world.

Details:

They’re also great because they come with extra links to hook your choker. You won’t have to worry about them fitting too tightly because there are so many link options!

Friday’s Finds at Dollar Tree

I love Dollar Tree because I can usually find nice name brand things and those everyday essentials like cotton balls and q-tips. On today’s trip to Dollar Tree I found three cool things that I would like to share: I got two nail polishes and I even got a cute little lipstick/makeup brush holder in the shape of a flower.

The goods

OPI – Comet in the Sky

After checking out I googled this shade to find out that it was from the Gwen Stefani Holiday collection from 2014 which is cool depending on how you view it.

Kylie – Trend Matters by Sinful Colors in the shade Krushed Velvet

Based of what I saw alone, I’d say it’s lit! So you should head on over to your local Dollar Tree and see what goods you can find!
