This Or That? Cult Favorite Edition

Cult favorites you say? Yes, the makeup products that have a dedicated fan base, and nothing but great reviews for years and years. To come up with my list I googled ‘cult favorite makeup items’ and chose the products that were mentioned on every list, and a few that were quite popular recently. On this or that? I will choose a product out of the two that I would rather have in my makeup collection. I’ll just let you know that I didn’t do well following the rules LOL.

Let’s get it popping!

OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark vs. OPI’s My Private Jet | I’m taking both. And yes, I understand the rules to this challenge! These nail polishes have been on my “buy that stuff!” list for a long time, and I still don’t have them. *takes notes*

opi

Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer vs. Benefit the Porefessional Foundation Primer | I have tried both and I could seriously live without them. Can I swap out the photo finish primer for the primer water? I’ll take that all day!

primer

MAC Ruby Woo vs. MAC Angel | I’ll go with Angel. I have my favorite red lip colors already and Ruby Woo has no place in my collection. It’s also very drying according to like everyone. Now if ‘Riri Woo’ ever happens to come back out I’ll take 10!

mac

Laura Mercier Tranlucent Loose Setting Powder vs. Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder | I’m going with Coty today! Laura’s powder is highly respected but I am more interested in the Deep Dark version of her loose setting powder. Also, Coty is quite affordable and it’s been around for ages!

powder

Feline Kohl Pencil by MAC vs. Perversion Eyeliner by Urban Decay | This may shock some people but I am not a big user of pencil liner or mascara. Due to my previously owning perversion and loving it, I’ll take that!

liner2

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner vs. KVD Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner | I’m a little undecided… I mean they are both pen liners and very popular. Since Stila has been around longer I will go with that.

Diorshow Mascara in Problack Mascara vs. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara |
An oldie but goodie. I have built a good rapport with ms. Great Lash, so she won! I don’t care to use mascara often so if I do I am not balling out on it.

mascara

Urban Decay Eye-shadow Primer Potion vs. MAC Painterly Paint Pot | For no rhyme or reason, I’m going with Primer Potion on this one. They are both cool in my eyes.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick vs. Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick | I feel like Bobbi Brown has solidified her spot as the best foundation stick on the market. Aside from that the hourglass colors seem too yellow for me to even use their f.s. I love the packaging though – it is quite clear who won this one. Bobbi!

I hope you enjoyed this random challenge I created! If you had to pick, what would you choose?

My 70’s Inspired F.O.T.D.

While I dressed up for a costume party, I hadn’t planned on dressing up on the actual day of Halloween. But like I mentioned in my last post – you can get chipotle for $3 if you dress up. So what did I do? I came up with another halloween #look. Since I’m currently rocking a fro I decided to find a “costume” that went with my hairstyle. What better than a look from the 70’s? Big fro’s, fierce fashion and beautiful makeup, I had to do it!

For my makeup, I opted to use minimal products:

Primer – Black Radiance true complexion HD primer in Natural Nude

Concealer – Ruby Kisses 3D face creator in RDF11. I used the darker shade to cover my dark marks, and the lighter shade as an under eye concealer.

Powder – MAC mineralize skin finish in Dark Tan

Highlighter – Highlight from Black Radiance’s blushing bronze palette in dark to deep

Eyes ||

Maybelline the Graffiti Nudes palette – First I used the shimmery brown shade on the top row, all over the lids. Then to create a spotlight illusion, I added the third eye shadow on the second row, a shimmery gold, to the middle of my lid. For no reason really, I used the Victoria’s Secret eye shadow in Precious as an inner corner highlight.

Liner – L.A. colors brow pencil in brown

Lipgloss – NYX Glam Gloss Aqua luxe in the shade The Beat Goes On

First Impression | NEW Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder

I’m sure many of you are familiar with Maybelline’s Fit Me collection, it’s one of the best collections that you can find in the drugstore for under $10. One of the reasons why this line is so popular is because you’re getting great quality makeup that comes in a wide range of colors, and it’s also very affordable. Recently, the Fit Me foundation line was extended by adding 18 new shades of foundation which means the line now has 32 shades. They range from the lightest shade Porcelain 102 to Java 375 the darkest shade. The Fit Me line currently consists of the Dewy/Matte + Poreless foundations, concealer, pressed powder, blush and shine free foundation stick. The newest addition to that line is the Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder!

After watching a YouTube video reviewing the loose powder, I went directly to the Maybelline section of my local Walmart to hunt down the newest item. The loose setting power comes in eight different shades starting at Fair and ending at Dark. I purchased the color Deep (the second darkest) for only $5.94! The Fit Me Loose Finishing powder is described as a mineral-based formula that will help control shine and smooth skins texture with a hint of color. You can currently find this in-stores and online at Walmart, Ulta and Maybelline’s website.

The products I used when testing this out were:

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer

Maybelline Matte + Poreless foundation in Coconut 355

Ruby Kisses Pure Mineral concealer in Golden Honey mixed with the Marc Jacobs Coconut Dew Drops Highligther

& Wet n Wild Megaglo highlighting powder in Lilac to Reality

After applying the loose finishing powder to my full face in different lighting

Final thoughts: I definitely loved the finished product after applying this finishing powder to my full face. It feels very light on, and kept my face from getting oily which I occasionally experience when using the Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation.  I also liked the fact that the powder didn’t alter the color of my already applied makeup. I applied my makeup at 5:30 and didn’t take it off until 12, after the NBA Finals Game 3 (GO CAVS!). During those hours I never needed a retouch and that is what really won me over.

I won’t recommend this product because I would like to try it with a different combination of items before I give it my stamp of approval but I’m not saying that you shouldn’t buy it either (like that helps LOL). If you do try it, let me know what you used it with and your thoughts!
